Freewheel wireless controls

Post by Karl V » Sun Aug 04, 2019 9:43 am

Met a nice chap at MSG who's name I've forgotten (sorry!). He was sporting a FreeWheel in his newly acquired Atom that gives all sorts of cool features, such as:
  • Cancelling indicators after X seconds
  • Main beam flash without having to twist through the lighting knob
Apparently any of the buttons can be programmed to do stuff once spliced into the wiring loom.

It got my attention because I remember him walking back to his car after getting a SMS message to say he had left his lights on in the car park :H:

Anywho...

Anyone out there looked at this set-up?

there was some discussion in the past on these systems. Don't know if anyone took this up?

Yeah, that's the stuff.

Anyone got any experience with this sort of thing?

I still fancy some easier-to-get-to indicators that self-cancel; a flashy headlights button and maybe a horn button that doesn't try to kill the starter motor at 50MpH.

Not to mention promise of auto-turn off sidelights after x minutes of ignition kill.

Anyone? Even on another car maybe...

I have something I'm working on at the moment that will attach on to the Atom4 dash retrofit but I'll see if I can adapt it to work with the older dash units when I get around to the wiring.

Thanks all.

I ended up making contact with said nice chap from MSG and have opted for one of these.

It'll be the 4 button layout with auto-cancel left and right indicators up top with main beam flash / a bit of horn action down below (awooga!)

I got me a box of quick splice wire connectors, slightly longer bolts for the steering wheel hub, a canary in a cage and an over-inflated sense of can-do attitude.

What can possibly go wrong???

OK, 'tis all done.

I made some notes here in case anyone finds it useful in the future.
