81p, I was lucky to have more than 6d but then I suppose that getting a 1d return to the Pierhead on the tram wasn't too expensive. (1d is less than Â½p)

135. Spending the whole day, from before sunrise until after sunset, going miles away from home, to play in the middle of nowhere, without your parents worrying.

(From Liverpool we used to go to Formby beach and build dens in the sandhills out of driftwood)

140. Chopping and drying bull rushes from the local ponds the lighting them. They would burn and glow for hours!

141. Wandering through a store in Liverpool in the '50s called 'Coopers' to smell the ground coffee and exotic foreign foods and peering at some of the strange things they sold such as 'Chocolate Ants' with legs sticking out at funny angles.

(It was bought out because of it's prominent position and turned into a WH Smiths)

142. Wandering through a very old Liverpool book shop called 'Philip Son & Nephew' where there were floors of rooms with books on every subject imaginable and maps of every area of the world.

(The WH Smiths above sold, or would supply, everything they did, undercutting them until they couldn't survive, then after they had gone WH Smiths reverted to what is basically a newsagent leaving a huge gap in the market which has never been fully filled)
