Post by rock » Sun Dec 17, 2006 12:28 am

I am not a mechanic I am a doctor ...yeah i know it sounds like McCoy on Star trek. but i have 2 questions. How did many of you mount your license plate ??

and what type of socket do I need to get the 4 nuts loose to adjust my seat. They are round not square.

thanks

If it's the same as a British car it's either an 8mm or 10mm allen key (havn't got my car here to check).

Rock, do you need a front plate?

If so it is pretty easy to mount it to the turn signal holder.  I cut some sheet metal to shape and then got a new bolt that has thread the entire length so that I could bolt the plate holder to the back of the turn signal.  Then you can reattach the plastic signal housing

It's too bad that the license plate is mounted vertically: so much drag.

Count Rossi's 917K has its Alabama license plate mounted leaned back flush with the front of the car.

And I love how the British Atoms have painted-on front license "plates."

Can't we Americans do what our fellow UK Atomites, and the Count Rossi, have done?

When we get the cars there are no holes drilled in the license bracket. When I got mine I thought it must have been a mistake, until I saw the "for off road use only" between the seats. I then realized (I know, I'm a genius) that Brammo wouldn't put plate holes in an "off road" car. Luckily there was a store open late at night and I found some nuts and bolts - and got to meet my first "crowd" at 11:00 at night.

Rock - I'm not much of a wrench myself, but I was sure careful about measuring and drilling those holes in my virgin Atom.

So - whoever is getting the next one - be ready.

Yeah, I was waiting with the cordless drill and my plates when the truck arrived :)

Mod hat on...

Moved this to this area. If i see the phrase "For Track Use Only" or if someone starts going into why such and such a thing makes the Atom illegal in ANY State, I'm going to move that thread over here, where the Insurance and DMV industry dweebs do not use it against someone trying to get their car on the road. It's too big a chore if you have to walk into a situation where you have to explain yourself from the minute and lay siege to some bureaucrat. Nothing wrong with what's been written, just want people to know why some threads get moved here.

back to your regular conversation now...

UK rear license plates are held on with double-sided sticky tape :)
