Can we remove these Games from the main stats, search areas?

Post by jon b » Thu Oct 04, 2007 7:33 am

OK, there are a few of you nurds out there - you know who you are  ;) - who spend, what looks like, your whole day responding to the 20+ stupid games running on this forum - no problem with that if your lives really are that  sad.  But - any ;) chance we can remove them from the "Recent Post" box on the main screen and from the "Unread" and "New Replies" areas

Some people wonder why we aren't getting many new members - of particular important why the conversion ratio - new owner to active forum/club member is so low.

Its cause your games don't just confirm that we're all a bit nurdy - oh no - we are all Super Uber Nurds !

Its jammin the whole frigin forum up with rubbish

I agree completely but I'm not aware of a way of doing this Jon - it would be great to be able ignore an entire board.  I'll have a look round the various options though and see if I've missed anything.

Cheers, Ross.

Cheers Ross - its just making the whole place look like a joke

Frankly its putting  me off coming on here much ...........  if people really feel the "need" for these games and we can't do anything about removing them for the stats - may be they could set up a new forum

"Super Uber Nurds.com" should do it

It's no worse than any other forums.  In fact playing games is quite tame compared to some of the drival, porn and libelous stuff that goes on in some other forums I visit.  I do not feel it has any effect on who joins the forum/club.

Bruce moved these into their own board so as you could go into the board and hit the mark as read button before you do anything else.  The only solution so far.  Problem is people are replying to the threads so quickly you get the thread back in your unread list almost immediately!

The only way to stop it is to ask Bruce to stop starting the dam things in the first place!!  ;)

Okay, I can't see a way to do it unfortunately, however I have made it so this board (and I think it's child boards) don't count towards people's post counts - this may reduce the number of posts to these areas anyhow.

For those that complain that their post count has suddenly dropped - sorry, tough get a life ;)....actually, it doesn't seem to affect users' existing post counts - may do in the future though.

The only other thing I can think to do is to add a custom button to the forum which will automatically mark all posts to that board as read.  I'd wanted to avoid adding custom bits to the forum though to be honest as it just complicates things.

Cheers, Ross.

Rule through dictatorship sorry Ross please turn back on the post count.  Why should you make the rules when the majority contribute to those posts at one time or another.  OUT OF ORDER.

Not sure John as i haven't visited any porn forums recently - the difference between this forum and PH, for example - it that a small minority clog up all the main search areas and stats as their posts become well in excess of any other - reasonably interesting discussion

Obviously the Ubber Nurds will defend their games to their last breath  ;)  but for the forums health and respect - please do something about it.

John - com'on who really gives a f*ck about post count that is just ubber, ubber sad man.  This isn't about me but the health of the forum to the visitors and majority of users that don't do these silly games.  No problem with games being in their area as they are - its the clogging up and impression it sends out.   Is this a car forum or playschool?

The games should just be ephemera,
but people insist on using them
and they are the most popular on the forum.
It sounds like someone just needs an enema

I'll put a vote up for everyone to vote on it.  I don't see it as a major issue either way but that board contributes very little to Atom ownership IMHO.  It's not like I'm suggesting removing the board itself - why do you need these posts to add to your post count?  Is it really so important?

Anyhow, I'm fine with going with a vote result.

Cheers, Ross.

You've missed the point of what i'm saying.  Remember its a tiny minority that do them - how very sad

I do not think the posts should count.
But I don't really care either way.

Fair enough Ross- trouble is don't think a vote will be representative of the audience i am talking about.  The ubbers' probably post 80% of the stuff on this forum as it is - fine if its not total rubbish but its full of total rubbish now.  Only the ubbers will vote on this so don't need much a brain to work out which way that ones going to go  ;D   Think health and look of the forum everyone

I don't care about the stats but being able to ignore that board would be the best thing to happen to this forum since ages
