Harrop supercharger
Re: Harrop supercharger
He was using his own software to get into the ECU. He told me that he could access it like it was a Cobalt now.
Re: Harrop supercharger
he might have reflashed it to a standard cobalt then retuned from scratch.

Yep Im gonna do it, yep yep I have to do it
Calling shenanagans.
So he wrote his own software to access a undocumented ECU, not only not the cobalt ECU but also an ECU with a unique operating system and figured out how to tune it even though it has taken years for HPtuners to get to the point they are today?
He is either curator's mechanic or a god

Not my area of expertise. Just going by what I am told.

I had given him my stock Atom ECU and he was able to speak with it and tune it. He told me that there were two reasons that HP Tuners could not see it. First that it had a serial number that HP Tuners did not recognize and second that the map was not something that would be recognized by the software. Basically I did not need to buy a new used ECU the tuner could have used the Atom one!

Where's the "nyah nyah told you so" smiley? Way back here I said
"Lastly, regarding aftermarket tuners and the Brammo ECU - I really, really doubt that the Brammo ECU is locked in any way. It is more likely a combination of:
a) stuff isn't in the same location in the ECU firmware as the tuners expect
b) the ECU doesn't report itself as an ECU the tuners support, so anti-piracy stuff in the tuning package rejects the ECU (I think all of the previous-revision Brammo ECUs all reported the same VIN, for example)"
Again, if HPTuners wanted to put the effort in, they could work just fine with the Brammo ECUs.

Re: Harrop supercharger
yeah, but there is no reason to use the Brammo map as a starting point. Overwrite the code, its not that good. Start fresh, and end up with a better tune.
Re: Harrop supercharger
EfiLive allows access to a limited amount of parameters, mostly enough places to get into trouble. My guess is that's as far as they got before they figured out it was a ECU no longer being used.
The original map was so safe, it was crap. The GM Stage 3 ECU is a vast improvement, if you still have the original parts, injectors/pulley etc. Which is also not supported by HPT for the reasons listed previously above.
Doing all the crazy stuff Norm did you'd need a tuner who had full access and knew what they were doing..

Re: Harrop supercharger
So Norms tuner was able to reprogram the factory Brammo ECM?
