Here's some nut torque figures for info - notice its in NM

Torque settings in Nm.

General
Wheel nuts    96
Driveshaft nuts  245
Suspension rod ends 5/8"  120
Steering arm rod end  45  (this ones new to this list)
Inboard suspension ½"  60
Engine sump plug  39
Gearbox oil filler plug  44
Gearbox oil drain  39
Engine oil filter  22 or 7/8 of a turn after seal seats down

Brakes
Standard calliper bracket bolts front  108
Standard calliper bracket bolts rear  59
Standard calliper bolts front  32
Standard calliper bolts rear  32
Alcon calliper brackets front and rear  108
Alcon calliper bolts front and rear  58 (was previously noted as 64)

Engine Mounts
Rear engine mount to engine x 2  64
Rear engine mount to chassis x 1  70
O/S engine mount to engine x 3  42 (top 2 x 17mm) 30 (bottom 14mm)  (were previously noted as 59)
O/S engine mount to chassis x 4  27
Front V engine mount to engine x 2  64
Front V engine mount to chassis x 1  70

I moved this from the other thread as it's of more general interest...

Also the Rod Ends setting is different - was 120 before

I assume this is direct from the Factory as at 14th March 07 ?

On another note that reminds me - will you be bringing any of the owners manuals along this wend - love to get one?

I used a torque wrench to do the wheel nuts up on my wheels last weekend.

I must admit 96Nm doesn't seem anywhere near as tight as I would have usually done them up! But maybe I've always over tightened them!

Funny john - just torqued mine properly - took the wheels of checked everything around the suspension, all nuts , copper grease etc

When tightening them - you're right 96NM didn't feel enough , and the threads aren't very long

I did however try and undo them with a standard wrench after and they are very tight - so i'm sure ok BUT i will be checking them a lot more often now

Been out all day in my Atom and all four wheels are still on! 

Do people not find it odd that Ariel use both imperial and metric bolts on the cars... WHY

Nope, after all the fuel tank can take gallons or litres of petrol!  Clearly a car designed for all markets

Because its British!!

My Ginetta's the same - I wrongly assumed that because it was built within the last 3 years, it might use all metric fasteners. I was wrong!! Its a combination of UNF, UNC, Metric and Metric Fine.

I know the Atom uses some UNF and some Metric stuff - but I wouldn't be surprised if there's Metric Fine, UNC, and probably a bit of Whitworth in there too!

Showing my age now!

Probably Joseph Whitworth of BSW fame but why the query I don't know unless he's implying there aren't any on the Atom.

And if anyone's going to show their age it should be me.

Its not the bolt types you should be worrying about...

Its the loose screws.
