Flappy Pedals

Post by smokin » Sat Nov 11, 2017 4:08 pm

My clutch pedal has always had some lateral movement, and I've always assumed that's just the way they are. My brake pedal too has a bit of sideways play but not to the same degree. However, over the last couple of years both have got noticeably worse and the clutch pedal in particular flaps about so much I occasionally only catch half the pad.

Turns out the old Tilton pedals use nylon pivot bushes and the new use oil filled bronze. I found replacement nylon bushes state-side https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=4897 but nothing local. I did, however, find suitable bronze bushes https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p120038/AI0608-16-Oil-Filled-Bronze-Plain-Bush-3/8x1/2x1-inch/product_info.html and fitted them today. Problem solved. They're a much snugger fit on the pivot bolts and now there's only the tiniest amount of play.

The old came out with the help of an 8mm socket and my trusty persuader (mallet). The new went in with a bit of assembly lube and a clamp. Wish I'd done this upgrade years ago.
