Db limit on track days

Post by PhilTimo » Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:00 am

Some mates of mine are doing a track day at Anglesey. I am keen to join them but the Db limit is 95db.

Anyone know what my Db level will be in a 3.5 S/C. (its the 2.4)

Thanks in advance

I doubt you'll be at/below 95.

95dB is normally the drive-by limit at Anglesey with 105dB static. With a stock exhaust you shouldn't have an issue if the 95dB limit is the drive-by

Don't even try if you have the sports exhaust fitted. Its way too loud.

If possible fit the cat it should help a bit.

95dB is low it depends how they measure it though (where on the track, how far away etc).

105dB static will be fine on a standard backbox. I did a thread on here some time ago with some figures if you have a search.

I have a dB meter which we can try if we ever have any more meets....

Does anyone know if an Atom 4 with cat bypass and standard exhaust (350 hp) can pass the 90db static test at Thruxton

No chance. I have the same setup (Atom 4 350, stock silencer) and its always measured at other tracks ~99dB.

If your really lucky they might turn a blind eye, but the car is NOT under 90dB.

May I ask, is there some standard for how these tests are done? Revs, distance from car, angle from exhaust for example.

Just curious.

thx Peter, wasted journey not wanted :o)

Standard test is 45 degrees from exhaust exit at 0.5 meters with engine at 4500 revs (for normal car engines that redline around 7000 rpm)

Thruxton is very low at 90db, I had serious doubts, Peter255 confirmed it. No journey to Thruxton for my Atom then.

Thanks for that dooke, so a measurement at one track will be a decent indication of whether you'll pass elsewhere.
That's good to know.
