If you race your Atom or use it hard on track, here's a place to discuss strategy and swap tips.

Dunlop Direzza 03g r1

Does anybody know where to buy Dunlop Direzza 03g r1 in U.K.?

People have said that these should be awsome, good grip, good price and durability.

I'm very interested in testing these tires.

I've only been running on Toyo R888. Is there anyone here who has experience Direzza?

Now I have bought and run my first set of Dunlop Direzza 03G.
My first impression is that it is much grip in them more than the Toyo R888.

They are very similar slick tires in their behavior, very little grip in the cold state, but once you got heat in it the traction is awesome.

I have H1 (medium) in rear and R1 (soft) in front.

How do they compare cost wise & performance, do they go off quickly? Have you been on track with them?

Almost nothing.
In Sweden, I paid 6500sek (591GBP) one set of Toyo R888
Dunlop tires I paid 7200sek (654GBP)

It´s about 10% more in cost. The preformance will at least be about 20% more........... maybe  ;D

Anyway, you will feel a noticeable difference.

Now I can really confirm what I have written previously on Dunlop Direzza.

I have been driving at my "home track" (Mantorp Park) for the first time with the Dulop Direzza .

I've driven over 500 laps on this track and have lots of data from that track with Toyo R888.

The Dunlop tires are very good in many ways.

As I've written before, these tires are very similar racetires, but now even more.
When you enter the track with cold tires you have about 0% traction, maybe 2% ;). You have to work hard on the first lap to reach an acceptable heat in the tire. Even then, you have a better or equally good grip as R888. Then it only gets better .....

Another thing I was surprised by was that even though I was driving 30 km / driving session at full speed it still not overheating.

But these tires are much more difficult to drive at the limit than R888, when you go over the limit drop all grip at once.
With R888 I could save 9 of 10 slides smoothly.

But for those of you who want a street-legal tires but still very fast on the track, then this tire is perfect for you.

I'll be able to post my thoughts next week.
Just bought a set, I do normally run Yoko Advan A005 slicks so they will not be quite the same.
The track might also be wet this week which won't help either.

Be sure to have the right tire pressure from the start. I start with 1.5 bar, after three trackday I had ruined the rear tires.

You should have about 1 bar in rear and 0.8 in front. You will have to work a bit more to get the heat up, but it gets better in the end.

Well the track ended up dry and I put in a 1:53.4 my fastest lap time yet.  Fastest on the aged A005 Yoko slicks is 1:54.6.
I have a new set of A005's waiting to go on when I receive another set of wheels from the UK.

Good result, shame the same wasn't true of the endurance race we did on Sunday in a BMW M3.  In the gravel after 30m and that was us done.

Quick update I was racing last week in the Pan Delta.  Two Atoms entered and we had a class 1 2 on the podium so pretty good result.  I ran on the Direzza's rather than slicks and my lap times are still going down.  So I'd rate them pretty highly.  They do go off when they heat up a fair bit though in a ten lap race be laps 6-7 they get a bit lairy.  I have a set of Advans for the next race so we'll see the difference.

Have you looked at Toyo R888R? They are the replacement for R888s. Demon Tweeks seem to have stock.

Never tried them, but 888s were always very good on Atoms.

Thanks for the reply Steve.

I’ve owned the car for less than a month now.

It came with a set of fresh A048’s on TD wheels, another set of TD wheels with Dunlop 03gs and an extra pair of front A048’s tyres.

So I have an excess of A048 front tyres which id like to match up with the rapidly melting rears!

The Dunlop front tyres have a few hours track use left as well, sadly i think the rears are done.

By the way has anyone had an issue with the melted rubber chocking up on the rear mudguards ?

Never seen tyres like that on any Atom !

What are you doing to them?

What tyre pressures are you running ? - they're overheating big time  :o

That was a result of a 2 hour track night. My first in an atom, so i wasn’t even really pushing it. I set them to 16psi hot. Well, I say hot. I couldn’t believe how cold the tyres were - straight off the track and into the pits and on with the gauge.
