Lane,

Don't they need to be in the modified section?, sure look if they've been through photoshop  ;D

Not neccesarily a Photoshop thing... If they are a heavy HDR then you would have a point JL.  A basic HDR, light on the filters isn't much more than brightening a dark picture so it becomes a judgement call...  Fine line and all... :)

Agreed.  Those are some of the best pictures I've seen of an Atom.

I think he's done more than you're stating. I suggest he moves them to the modified section or they may be disqualified from this one.  ;)

HDR techniques can heavily increase color saturation and does other things with the levels of a picture. So John Lloyd is correct, especially on the last picture. He's just saying they'll stand a better chance in the competition if they are in the right category. It's not a slam against the picts (which are terrific, I wanna see more). JL is the Judge, he even works in the printing industry and knows what to look for, so he makes the rules.

Keep em coming Lane.

Oh, here we go - guess I should have seen it coming that somebody wouldn't be happy with something.

Regardless of what you think, John, I have not done anything more than what has been stated.  Even though noone appreciates being told they're mis-representing something, I will attempt to clarify the details further.

The HDR software, in its most basic operation, joins 3 images and essentially joins them taking the best from all of them.  What is that?  In what I can see (as this is the first time I've done this), you get much more detail in both the shadows and highlights in one image although none of what is in my images is made up or artificial as it is a combination of those images.  Now, when most people usually create HDR images, they tend to overdo it (in my opinion) by tweaking anything and everything they can to give you an effect that is intended to call attention to that effect and slap you in the face with it.  I have not done any modification other than combining the three.  In fact, I have set the software to do pretty much the minimal amount of processing that it can in order to accomplish that and had to uncheck a bunch of stuff in the software so it would allow me to do that.  Here are examples of the 3 images that make up two that I'd posted.

I will gladly show the same for my other images if anyone feels they need it in order to prevent more accusations.

If some people don't think my photo submission fits into this category, then please direct me to any rules & guidelines which state what belongs where and I will be sure to follow them to the letter.  If there aren't any, and this discussion is starting to become based on the opinions of whomever is most vocal and willing to argue their case to the ends of the Earth, I would suggest this instead.  I would be happy to participate in a group discussion in order to develop some criteria, rules, guidelines, etc. (even if they are only a few sentences) for the photo categories so that objections based on opinion are less likely to start yet another unpleasant argument on this forum.

LOL - I would have thought that photos being submitted that weren't taken by the owner/submitter would have been the first source of ire, but I guess not.

If I've missed something let me know.
It's supposed to be light hearted.

For those who don't get it the following is meant to be a bit of fun.

It's getting technical now and it's 1am in the UK and I've been to a beer festival and drunk Cider and Perry, with a shot of hobgoblin at the end, so this may not make much sense.

There are 7 photo comp' groups and actually re reading some of them it could be confusing.

Not all of them contain the word Atom in the title to start with!!  But if memory serves me correctly you have to at least have had an Atom in the photo to win or be commended!!  :D

Beyond that some groups ie on track could not have been taken by you, but rather by someone else of you in your Atom!

So let's agree.  All photo's have to have an Atom in them to stand a chance of winning!

The photo is either take by someone else of you in your Atom or by you of your Atom.  (It could have been taken by someone else of your Atom and submitted by you, the voters and the "judge" would never know.)

Just to remind you the judging is by anyone who sends me their votes, towards the end of the year.  So actually none of the above applies.  If the photo is in the group and get's voted for it usually wins.

Did any of the above make sense?

I'll try to make it clearer for next year.

The photo comp grew out of the fact no one was posting photo's in the club gallery and we wanted a central point for photo's, so please keep posting photo's in this area.  I love to look at them.  :tu:

Confused?  You will be if you try to make sene of the above!
