it was indeed RHD and I changed it into LHD, not bothering the handbrake (I for 1 never use it)

Bruce: I put back the Pectel and the car runs smoothly again.....

Going to Schotland next week for a nin day blast, but think I'll take the Elise instead.....

- the dash is in the middle, like our friend Sp1d3r's one, and replaced by an Alfano ?, a GPS ?
- the handbrake 
- and there is a "hollow" (don't know the world in english sorry) in the bucket between the 2 seats. What's that ?

That's the ashtray.  Was on Mk1 cars and earlier Mk2 cars, then went away and is now back on the latest seat.
