Noises from Alcons

Post by Chicagomax » Mon Apr 11, 2022 2:38 am

For those with alcons (especially if those with 3S): want to check if 2 break noises are normal:

1) when breaking lightly, regular squeaking

2) if rolling backwards(like at a stoplight or reversing very slowly), there is sometimes a grinding sound I believe coming from rear breaks(I have to be going backwards VERY slowly for it to occur)

Thanks in advance for any help!

As said by IanG, the squeaking is normal. Could the grinding sound when reversing be the handbrake (ebrake) pads chattering?

Thanks so much both for the responses. @fastlane I think it very well could be chatter, and you made me think maybe next time it happens I’ll lightly apply the parking see if that gives me any clues.

Thanks again Fastlane and IanG

Check the pads, file a bigger chamfer onto the leading edges if worn and apply go go paste to the pad backing.
