Atom with Ecotec SC

Post by Gt40Eco » Tue Feb 05, 2013 5:53 pm

I have been looking around to find one information about the Super Charger on the Ariel Atom.

I tired Brammo but they do not deal with AA, and the new company is not responsive.

I wish to have some picture and as much information about the idler pulley; parts number if any, or the size of the idler.

The Supercharger on the Cobalt (Ecotec 2.0) is set up with an A/C compressor, the AA is the only set up ,per my knowledge, who is running without an a/c compressor.

Any info , pics or measurement will be greatly appreciated

Looking to run a Cobalt/Ion without an A/C compressor?

More photos can be found in my website's photo gallery in the albums for the supercharger pulley swap and also the one titled misc stuff.

The C-shaped bracket holding the idler looks custom.  TMI might be able to provide you with a bracket as they still have parts for the Brammo Atom 2 and can still re-fab some as required.  I'd measure it for you, but my car is put away for the winter and I can't get to it easily at the moment.

Thanks for the fast answer this help a lop , from the pictures you post and the one on your page I'm able to figure out some dimension for the bracket, for the pulley size it seems to be a "standard".

I tried to contact TMI via e-mail in the past and I never got any reply.

I will try to call them , going further down the road I wonder what ECU and tune you are running in your car since you change the pulley, they basically have two type, the two connectors one ( mostly cavalier 2.2 ) and three connectors ( LSJ in cobalt ).

Thanks again for your help

"Stock" tune on the upper end Brammo Atom 2 (which they advertised as 300 hp) was either the GM Stage 2 or 3 tune for the Ion Red Line or Cobalt SS that was customized a bit further if I understand correctly.  Others here that have done tuning can correct me if I'm wrong.  I am running the stock tune with a lightweight pulley that's the same diameter as stock (3" / 76.2mm).  To go any smaller on the pulley, owners need to upgrade the cooling or they'll just get timing retard and less hp than they started with.  I have a few things to do yet for cooling before I start tuning and trying a few different pulley sizes to see what effect they have.  I'm in no rush to get more hp because the car still offers more than my ability can put to use on the track.

Bear in  mind that on the Atom the engine is at the other end of the car from the supercharger intercooler, which is also mounted horizontally in the hot air flow from the main radiator.

Eventually, they're all going to heat up enough that the timing gets pulled and performance plummets, but I'd expect that to take longer on a Cobalt/Ion.

I have a reply from TMI and they do not have any left bracket for the pulley.

I have a ruff idea how to make the pulley, and I start to machine it, the only pics I need is from the "front" of the motor . I can see that the bracket bolt to the alternator and support idler between the alt. pulley and sc pulley .

I'm not quite sure what you are needing but I think I have some spare pulley's for the stock supercharger on the atom are you just needing  a pulley for the supercharger snout?

IF not what are you working on?

Thanks for your offer, I'm looking for two information, the first one is dimensions, drawings, pictures of the idler f pulley between the SC and the alternator and the size of the serpentine belt.

I'm planning to install a SC in my kit car ( GT4 look alike, Fiberfab) and don't have the room to use the factory A/C compressor, I found out that the US Atom has a supercharger in a set up who will work for me .

As right now I work on the brake upgrade as soon as this one is satisfactory I will work on the SC.

I don't plan to push the SC to high power since I will run a "factory" tune.

Thanks for your help.

Brammo belt is 20mm x 1295mm for Ecotecs with superchargers.

The interchange parts for this are:
