Help with oil cooler install on the K20 motor

Post by A.E.P » Thu Sep 30, 2010 3:39 pm

I would like to install a oil cooler on the Ariel 3 with the K20 245 hp motor.
I plan on mounting the oil cooler to the lower frame tube near the crank pulley and close to the oil filter.
Is there an adapter that can be used with the stock water cooled oil filter housing ?

It should be pretty easy to find a Honda-based oil filter "sandwich" adapter and plumb from there.  If you want to keep the OE water/oil heat exchange then you'll be looking at a custom bolt to clamp the whole assembly together.  Example adapter:

Out of curiosity, have you been running into oil temp issues?  If so, I'm wondering what location you've picked to locate your oil temp sender.

Thanks.

The car is driven on the streets here in south Florida, and will be tracked at PBIR, Sebring etc.
The car runs cool and have had no overheating issues even with the unusually hot summer weather we've been having.

I just wanted the temp and pressure information available at all times.
Can anyone recommend a good manufacture for Honda K20 parts  (Jackson Racing etc.) ?

Thanks,

McFred

Relative to what?  Jackson Racing is really only known for their supercharger kits for Hondas.

There are dozens of aftermarket companies for Honda/K-series applications.  Some are more platform specific.  In general it depends on what it is you're looking to do.

Might be a good places to start looking for suggestions:

Also these guys have ECU solutions:

Any plans on what you might use for monitoring your oil temp & pressure?  Datalogger or a simple gauge pack?  If you come up with a good point for oil temp pickup, share away!

Also, you might want to get a baseline on your oil temps for a while before mounting a cooler.  Who knows, you might not need it after all...
