Atom 4 silencer delete

Post by reg » Mon Sep 26, 2022 10:31 am

Hi,

After a few discussions I took the car over to Hard Knocks in Oxfordshire where the very knowledgeable Chris is taking on the project. Basically we are removing the factory silencer, primarily because it (the sports one) doesn't do very much.

The first plan is to make an end pipe with a swan neck over the rail. As part of this the horrible swaged Honda style exhaust flanges which tend to leak will be replaced with decent items. Swapping the exhaust to the road one for tracks will then be easier.

Time wise we are looking at getting the car in there 20th October. As soon as I have pictures etc I'll post them up. Once the first one is done if there is interest from other owners they will make a jig from mine.

Should be good :tu:

Not just that, it’s removing weight and opening up a space for something else :)

+1, I didn't quite realise that the Sports Silencer was a fake silencer with a straight through pipe .. Anything that makes the swap between Sports and track easier would be of interest ..

So, mk1 is ok, but needs a support as the clamp isn’t enough. What we did was to shorten the link pipe from the std silencer so it’s really easy to remove. Thursday it’ll be all done and I’ll post up pictures.

After adding the support to the pipe, all looked good. But when the standard silencer went back on there was a bit of misalignment. I should have taken the stock silencer along and got the support welded on that, as it was we did it by eye and the V band had a bit of a fight to pull it up. I'll be getting it sorted very soon......
