Scratching the Supercar itch

Post by Preseh » Mon Apr 18, 2022 11:33 pm

I absolutely adore my Atom and have loads of great things planned with it this summer but there's something in the back of my mind that wants to scratch the supercar itch.

Most of my driving is on the road with the girlfriend and whilst she quite enjoys a summer blast, faffing with helmets and harnesses in cold and/or rainy conditions kinda spoils the experience a little bit.

So that got me thinking... Is there a car out there that can offer the wow factor of the Atom but perhaps with Aircon a roof, and a radio? Something that doesn't lose a horrendous amount in depreciation? I'd love to tick the supercar box whilst I'm in a position to do so but what on earth do you replace something as good as the Atom with?

Have any of you guys transitioned to/from a supercar or have one alongside the Atom? I've primarily been looking at Ferrari 458s, McLaren 600LTs/720s but I'd love to hear your thoughts! 🤔

I just took my 720 Spider back for its first service, only to discover what I really, really needed was a Volcano Yellow/MSO Black Pack one. Its getting ppf and detailing done and I'm picking it up on Friday.
They are absolutely fantastic cars, like the Atom you can just beat them up continuously and they take it. Rides like a Range Rover, sounds brilliant with the sports exhaust, generally thought to develop close to 800hp, certainly way over 710. I will never tire of seeing the rear wing pop up and down in my mirror, flames out of the exhaust blah blah. The car has everything. Don't flinch at the idea, just do it.
And in a year and 3000 miles the old one didn't have a creak or a squeak.
And the dashboard spins round!!

And one old friend who accompanied me back from Crewkerne in my 3.5R, then went out in the 720, reckons the 720 feels quicker.
And it looks a bit like a spaceship.

That's awesome to hear Alan. My thoughts on McLarens are that they're seriously undervalued for what they are - granted they're going to have their niggles but there seem to be some good independent specialists popping up.

The 720s looks like an absolutely brilliant car. I do wonder if it'll feel a little bit too disconnected after coming from the Atom hence the thoughts of the 600LT. My budget is 600LT Spider vs 720s Coupe territory so will need to test them both.

I think the Ferrari 458 will feel a bit dated in comparison but can't argue with the noise and residuals.

Third option is to buy my girlfriend some heated waterproof gear and tell her to just deal with it ;D

A 720S is probably the best supercar period. Good listen on the collecting cars podcast about the development. It’s super clever stuff. Chris Goodwin is super talented

I really enjoyed that. Loved the talk about the suspension, they said it was more like a 7 series, it shocks most people that get in the car, how it is so fantastically comfortable. I have offered rides a few times on here, but no takers! Buy one.

Reg,

I'm here all the time, not too far from you. I'm getting the new one next week, give it a month and meet and you'll be genuinely blown away. Keep in touch.

AlanP if you ever bring the 720s along to any events, let me know - would love a ride in it! I'll be keeping the Atom to enjoy for the summer and then it looks like a 720s will be top of the list to try 🤔
