Ordering new atom.

Post by Chrisark » Tue Jul 13, 2021 9:38 am

Morning All.

I have recently joined this forum and I am after some advice before ordering an Atom.

The spec…

Am I honestly the only person who seems to be happy with a standard car? The car will be mainly road use and occasionally the very odd track day.

I fancy bits like boost control, carbon parts, removable steering wheel, upgrade brakes but not really seeing any benefit to me of the performance suspension etc.

Love to know people’s thoughts…

Morning Chris,

I think its the re sale value that will hurt a bog standard car, and a potential buyer will always choose another atom (with specification over yours)

The base car will still be great but as 8_enj said, you may have a harder time trying to sell. I'd personally consider the following options as a good choice for resale:

Limited Slip Diff
Baffled Engine Oil Sump
Upgraded brakes
Any sort of adjustable suspension
Stainless Steel Fixings
Aero Screen

This is what I fancied.

LSD
Adjustable traction control
Turbo boost controller
Adjustable brake bias
Sport brake package
Quick release wheel
Fire extinguisher
3 inch harness with adjustment
Track day tyres
Aero screen
Carbon mudguards
Black wheels

I was thinking things like the suspension could be easily modified at a later date by a future buyer?

LSD, baffled sump are essential regardless. I’d fit anything intrusive and leave bolt on bits for later….but you’ll pay more ultimately, when, not if you buy them :)

I’d try an balance your choices.

If someone’s buying they’ll not be best happy if as extreme example it’s for the 350bhp upgrade, wings but bog standard brakes.

From your list I’d be considering bumping up the suspension a notch too. If nothing else this means you can make it soft for a long cruise for a service at the factory, and rock solid for a trackday.

It’s not essential like the LSD, but I’d consider brakes and suspension as pretty core to the experience ahead of things like traction control.

It’s all a matter of preference though, go for what you feel works best for you.

Don't forget these options (not part of the 'standard car') if you want to drive it on the road :-

Road Pack
IVA Test
Road Tax and Registration

Another essential in my book is Stainless Steel Fixings otherwise all the visible nuts and bolts will rust.
