essential specification??
essential specification??
Hi all,
Looking at the current spec sheet, what options do all current 4 owners are think are essential?
Or any options that are worth fitting at the very beginning due to complex issues fitting down the line?
And any options anyone considers not worth the spend?
Thanks guys

Re: essential specification??
It all depends on your budget.
First things should be:
Stainless steel bolts etc
LSD
Baffled sump, but not totally necessary unless you do more than 3 track days a year, but essential for resale.
Aero screen
The rest are things you want not need.
Brake upgrade and balance adjuster.
Shocks as good as you can afford, but the 3k ones are good enough, if you spend more you might as well go for the Ohlins.
The world is your oyster or budget.

Re: essential specification??
Depends on priorities. IMO a good spec 4 is between £60-70K.

Re: essential specification??
I would certainly recommend the 350 upgrade
The traction control and Boost Control is worth every penny (Some would certainly disagree with that)
Go for the AP brakes

My grey hair is not a result of age, it's the stress of more than a decade of reversing an Atom blind.
Get the reversing camera.

Re: essential specification??
It all depends on what you are going to use the car for. The more road use, the less point in ticking boxes.
That said, come resale time the better brake and suspension you can afford the easier the sale.
Also, unlike pretty much any other car, you'll lose a very small amount (if any) over the purchase price that you pay, so if you can run to it, tick lots of boxes, enjoy its brilliance and get your money back come resale time.
Apparently over 70% of Atoms now go out with Ohlins on, so these will definitely make the car an easy sell later on.
As Reg said, £60-70k is probably where most cars end up. £50-55k will still be brilliant but much less than that and it will be harder to move on.
Cheers,
Stu

Re: essential specification??
The optional alu mirrors are essential. The stock ones are huge and horrid!
Even Ariel NEVER fit them to their demos!

Atom 4, Clio v6, & some other cars obviously.

Thanks all, any feedback on the exhaust options?

Re: essential specification??
Agree with all the suggestions so far.
Some 'cheap-ish' options high up on my list were:
High level brake light - Didn't fancy the idea of being rear-ended in traffic because somebody wasn't paying attention and couldn't see my lights.
Passenger + Clutch Footrest - Provides that little bit more comfort, definitely worth having.
Brake Bias Adjuster - Will I really be fine tuning my brake bias on track? Possibly not but it makes the car feel proper 'race car' to me.
Carbon dash - If you've got the budget, I think the carbon dash really looks the business and it's the thing you're going to be staring at quite often.

Re: essential specification??
I think Presh is bob on there.
Nothing screams "track day experience car" then avoiding the basic options. Here's what I'd list:
- LSD
- Baffled Sump
- Stainless fixings
- Aero screen
- Machined aluminium wing mirrors
- High Level Brake light
- Locking Fuel cap
- Passenger and Clutch Footrest
I'd also suggest avoiding the stock colours which I think are matt black frame and silver wheels.
From there depending on how much carbon and track/road specifics you want to bolt on, just don't forget to spec a handbrake if it's needed. And even if you're not going to spend a fortune on carbon consider the dash, as you're always looking at it.

Re: essential specification??

Red, blue, yellow, green, black or white I think… all Flat gloss finish (gel coat).
