In an attempt to lose some weight on the Atom 4...

Post by Anon » Wed Jul 29, 2020 4:57 pm

...I added some lovely titanium black bolts to my car this evening. I do think they have made a huge difference to the stainless bolts that were there before and they are so light. The steering wheel being the best because you look at it all the time and it fits in with the black theme of the car.

I got these from Pro Bolt: https://www.pro-bolt.com/

Before and after - but they look much better in person.

I’ve got to admit that these do indeed improve the final finish of the car. Good work.

Thanks. I think so to as well. It was as if the car was made for these 14mm head titanium bolts because they have these 14mm rubber washers. So now you can't see the washers.

It's basically a total of 23 bolts. I have a drawing I made with all the sizes required if anyone wants it. They are all 14mm M6 1mm pitch dome bolts, it's quite common to use these dome shape bolts for aesthetic purposes. You can also spec this at build time as well.

Great work Simon!

Any chance you could post a link to the specific bolts you ordered from ProBolt?

Sure, I will put together a list of links to the bolts you need with my dodgy drawing tomorrow.

Price wise it was about £195 for the lot. It's a lot of money but the results are much nicer than stock, plus a lot cheaper than at build if you don't mind wrenching yourself.

Chaps I can get the titanium bolts significantly cheaper from some of our suppliers, I can't remember the prices but I got some several years ago for my Atom 2 and they were a lot cheaper than pro bolt.

I was planning on doing a titanium bolt back anyway but not got around to checking all the sizes yet but I'll be happy to supply the forum members pretty much at cost if you can wait. If someone can supply the sizes/colours/quantities it'll speed the process a fair bit as I'm the bottleneck at work at the moment because of the outstanding number of jobs going on at the moment requiring my input.

All screws are:
Titanium in black (or another colour if you prefer of course)

Pay attention to whether you have a footrest or not below. When you have a footrest on the passenger side, the bolts are longer. I did not replace the stainless nuts.

Dome type M6 (6mm)
1mm pitch
4mm allen key
16mm dome head
3.7mm head height
Grade 5 titanium (approx 91% pure titanium)

Right tub:
16mm
16mm
20mm
16mm

Left tub
16mm
35mm (only if you have the foot rest otherwise 16mm)
40mm (only if you have the foot rest otherwise 20mm)
16mm

Left rear body (fuel tank side):
2 x 20mm

Right rear body:
2 x 20mm

Channel:
2 x 40mm
2 x 25mm
1 x 30mm

Dash:
2 x 25mm
1 x 16mm

Steering wheel:
3 x 16mm

With passenger foot rest:
9 x 16mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx16mm/
5 x 20mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx20mm/
1 x 35mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx35mm/
3 x 40mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx40mm/
4 x 25mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx25mm/
1 x 30mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx30mm/

Without passenger foot rest:
10 x 16mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx16mm/
6 x 20mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx20mm/
2 x 40mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx40mm/
4 x 25mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx25mm/
1 x 30mm: https://www.pro-bolt.com/titanium-dome- ... 00mmx30mm/

Here is a dodgy picture - make sure you check this against the list above to make sure I made no mistake. And this drawing is for a footrest.

Exciting times!! as everyone says, you will love it and then some more also Ariel are excellent to work with. Make sure you spec the 350bhp power upgrade - I tried the 320bhp and although very fast the 350bhp upgrade turns the car into an animal.

Nice. Thats massively cheaper than the optional ones from Ariel. Circa 1/3 the price from memory. Good stuff. :tu:
