Jacking points at the front for the Atom
Jacking points at the front for the Atom
Hi all
I am at this time sorting my garage out and thought I may need a slim jack to get under the front of an Atom. I already have axle stands that fit the tubes nicely but I don't have a slim jack.
I read this post about jacking the front suspension arms: http://sector111.blogspot.com/2016/01/j ... -atom.html
Is this the way to do it? it would seem this method you need 2 jacks? Is there no place under the front in the middle to take the weight of the front?
Any pointers/tips welcome.
Simon

No just 1, not even a lowered...just drove it on a rubber mat first.
If you want it on jackstands you can go 1 by one, when all 4 are in position, you can go round all 4 corners again and jack it up a litlle higher.
Buying a 1000 euro lift is more easy though

Re: Jacking points at the front for the Atom
Here's an extract from the Atom 3.5 handbook showing the factory-suggested method :-
I used a Sealey Aluminium Jack RJA1250 as it only weighed 11Kg and had a really low minimum height when fully lowered that was just enough to get it under the car.
It has a minimum height of just 79mm and can lift 1.25 tonnes.
Jacking the Atom is a tricky process as usually jacking one corner can lead to 3 wheels off the road and the car pivoting on the remaining wheel and the jack !!
Best to place a spare tyre or two under for your and the car's safety and use a rubber pad on top of the jack pad and axle stands to not only stop it slipping off but also protect the frame's paintwork.
Note it says at the front, place the jack close to the suspension arm mounting point. The factory don't approve of placing it at the wheel end (as per Sector 111) as it can upset the suspension geometry.

Thanks for sharing this. I guess the front is not that heavy so jacking the suspension arm causes no ill effects. I have Sealey stuff, they make nice garage equipment and that jack looks well priced.
