Atom 4 Paint Protection and Detailing

Post by Badders » Tue Oct 22, 2019 12:23 pm

Hi everyone.

I've had my Atom 4 since August, and it's since been back to the factory for a couple of extra bits, and it's first service. It was always my intention to get some paint protection film (PPF) applied, as certain areas of the car take a lot of abuse from stones and crud, especially as I will be using the car on track.

I thought I'd post a new topic, in case anyone is interested in what I'm currently having done. I'm not sure if the forum rules allow me to post a business name in case it is classed as advertising (maybe a moderator can advise?), but the car has gone to a local detailer, and his partner who have done six cars previously for us, and whose work is absolutely amazing. A real perfectionist, which of course helps in his job!

He now has a template made up specifically for the Atom 4, and I have the following areas covered: wishbones front and rear, front of bonnet (full coverage also an option), lower chassis rails where the tub fits, two of the most exposed 'rungs' either side of the chassis, more coverage on the upper chassis parts for entry and exit, the panels either side of the seats (where the chassis number is), chassis rails beside gear lever, the gear lever and handbrake plate (essential for me, as the belt buckles often hit this area), the upper tube where the seat belts attach, corner roll cage mounting plates (I use these holes for a GoPro mount, and didn't want any damage), mudguards front and rear and the front of the snorkel.

My car has a satin powder coated finish (my next one won't!), so the film is satin finished as well in these areas, which looks so much better than the gloss that came from the factory. It blends in really well.

The car is also being ceramic coated in the usual areas, and the engine treated, so as to keep it shiny and hopefully prevent the usual aluminium oxidation.

Hopefully, this will all go a long way to keeping it fresh for the years until my next one gets built.

Here are some photos so far...

By all means say who, but if you do so would be very helpful to everyone if you said how much it cost - ballpark.

I think there are lots of people who would be interested in knowing the name of the detailer, their location and the figures.
Even if owners aren't close enough to use their services, it helps build up a picture of what prices to expect.

Cheers,
Stu

Will gladly report back once I have the final price chaps.

Paul at Definitive Detail, (West Hanningfield, near Chelmsford) is the magician, and he works alongside Steve of Mint Condition UK for the PPF.

Yeh, I posted something g recently. My 3.5R is covered in PPF, which is great. But with a lot of things, as it ages, it turns a funny colour.
White frame, it’s starting to go yellow from the adhesive. So I’d like to replace it all.
I wonder if he has the older car specs, or is it just the 4?

Sorry for the delay all. Cost is £600 for all the PPF, also including sections of satin film in the footwell to prevent your heels from wearing the weave. Yes, I'm a fussy one. ;-)

Sorry, I’m still chuckling about you ‘wearing out your weave’.
Do you know if he can do the 3?

Snigger. Well, no one wants a tatty weave.

Yes, the 3 can be done apparently. Templating can be done in-house if needed.
