Corrosion in welding joints

Post by PaulF » Sat Oct 19, 2019 9:19 am

I noticed some corrosion forming in the welding joints of my 2010 car.

What's the best course of action here?ImageImage

“Best” is buying a 4 and exchange this one😄

Silly mode off: I would just go to your local spot repair shop and have it fixed properly for 75 pound per spot

Really !?

Not sure if that's just 1 joint or 2 show in the picture, but it looks like the weld has separated from the tube in one place.

If it is structural and not just cosmetic, first port of call should be to discuss with the factory.

My remark was assuming that its strictly cosmetic as seen more often, if it is seperating you obviously should call the factory, but I dont think that is the case

The pictures are from 2 different welds. As far as I can see it's purely cosmetic.

I can't be the only one to have this, right?

Looks like it might be superficial, but the only way to be sure is to get the damaged paint off.

Something like a Dremel and grind / sand the paint back just in the discoloured area and when you get back to the metal you will see if the weld is OK.

If its just cracked paint then just prime and re-paint. The Ariel silver shouldn't be impossible to match.

Good Luck. If it needs welding all is not lost. Contact Ariel and they will help I am sure.
Atom 4, Clio v6, & some other cars obviously.
