Autocar review

Post by phil4 » Thu Oct 10, 2019 11:44 am

Ariel this morning posted on FB about the "Coveted five star road test rating" they received from Autocar for the Atom 4. Good stuff indeed.

But when I go to the Autocar site and search the Atom 4, it only suggests 4.5 stars. Still good, but not quite what the above says. I'm sure it'll either be a technicality (road test vs practicality) or perhaps autocar haven't updated their site. Odd though:

On FB Ariel is referring to the Autocar new mag that you can buy, not to the website old review.

Maybe they got hold of another car?

Maybe they tested the 350 demo car (yellow panels titanium frame).

Who has seen the review? Does the colours match?
Atom 4, Clio v6, & some other cars obviously.

That tallys with the pic on FB, which is about as you describe, titanium and yellow, with what look like Ohlins, and black wheels.

It is the 350 car. I haven't read the review yet but the cover photo is definitely the grey/yellow car.

Makes sense, they prefer the 350 car on Ohlins to the 320 car on Billies, and gave it the extra half a star. If the map is a good-un (and feedback has been good) i'm not surprised they prefer the 4 with even more power. It certainly handles 320 with ease.

Hopefully the 350 map adds a bit more lunacy to the proceedings! >:D

Interestingly TG seem clueless in their TG24 commentary of the same car. They repeatedly refer to 320 bhp. ::)

If any use to you. I should be in Fontenay Le Compe next Friday doing a track day. I can bring you over a copy and also latest top gear magazine which also has the 4 in it. I think you are less than 2 hours away

markwetherall thank you for the offer Mark :tu: , at the moment i plan to go for a trackday to F1 track in Barcelone the sunday 20 October so i can't come to Fontenay. But if weather is not 100% dry in Barcelone i'll not go there and in this case going to Fontenay the Friday 18 can be an option for me. ;)

The autocar test says the car is 316 bhp. And their power curves shown in the test bear that out

It is the yellow car, so perhaps Ariel put it back to original spec ?

...also the review is so positive, expect the order backlog to go up to 4 years 🙁

Where can I read this review or do I have to buy the mag?
