Boost was I think 1.6 bar
It’s running a hondata

That amount of boost seems a bit high!

The boost on my 3.5R is 11psi (standard SC Atom has 7.5psi) but I have a charge cooler etc fitted.

My Atom is giving 362bhp on my local rolling road out of a K20Z4

Ian

Pleased you got it running and gained significant power and torque over your old setup! :tu:

You didn't note in your posts, but i believe from our IMs that more boost isn't possible due to heat from the charger, which i guess has to compress 20% more air anyway due to the higher capacity (to retain the same boost).

I guess the smart move now is to run it in for a while, enjoy it and have a careful think about next steps.

Respect to you for doing this. :tu: Its great to see an Atom pushed beyond the stock. 8)

I wonder what the cost of injectors(?) (and maybe fuel pump?), pods and a I/C would be. Seems likely that there is a fair bit more to be had in that block for future adventures. Maybe enjoy the car this summer and round 2 ~340->360 come next winter again? ;) >:D

Thats a fairly standard boost pressure reading. Thats not the amount of boost above atmospheric, it includes the atmospheric of 1 bar.

0.6bar = 8.8psi boost, less than your R.

I think its the terminology thats confusing here....

Yep really looking forward to getting it out

Its not a track car just a standard road car so its achieved it goals
About the same power as a R but without the side pods Result :vroom:

And plenty of room for improvement 8)

Thanks for sharing, I have learned a load and found it interesting. Congrats on the extra power, now when the rain goes and the sun comes out you can enjoy this beast!

I agree this car lives for the track! as mentioned, take it to Silverstone and you won't want to go anywhere else! :tu:

Hi All. Ian 1.6 bar of boost is about 23 psi which would give about 450 plus bhp? Levo.

Hi Levo
True but it’s the intake temps that kill the power
There are no coolers on the car so no way of cooling the air at present that could be the next route

Meth kit will be the cheap option or charge coolers but significant cost. As we discussed Ian, let me make the mistakes and hopefully we all learn something. Let's get the injector moved to the inlet manifold and see what difference it makes. If it helps, I think it's an easy mod for you.

Hi Ian you are right hot expanded air does not burn as nice. Keeping the JR super charger will give reliability but has its limits however the engine you have built will stand 500 hp and run fine one of the nicer options is a rotrex and a air to air inter cooler there are a few different kits about there is a atom owner in Scotland who has blown a couple of engines up with Meth so make sure that system is bomb proof. The Meth kit might be cheap but could cost a lot in the Short term. You should be able to sell the Jr for a few quid as the Honda Boy racers like them this could then go towards a nice charger. I would run the engine in on a mild tune and then save up a few quid and go for it as all the money you have spent on the engine will not be used .Ps a little tip let the engine warm up fully before welling it as forged pistons have more play in them than the standard silicon based cast one as they expand a lot more so if you heat the piston to quick you can get a cold seizure the best pistons to use are Nippon Racing Pistons (not NRP) which are cast spun with up to 18/20 % silicon so they hardly expand at all and will out live a genuine Oem by up to there times and will handle about 650 hp. A friend of mine runs side cars i.e. Isle of man TT and is fitting a meth kit but it will be only activated by holding a button just to give it a boost out of a corner and down the strait but you would need a nice Ecu to do that. I wish you all the best with it and will look forward to seeing you and the car one day. Cheers Levo.
