There's been a few !
Our search facility refuses to search on "Atom 4" or "Atom" and "4" etc, so it's not much good here

As far as I know, there's no announcement (yet!) ..

Here's a few links to read ..

I think he may be referring to the Facebook pic and post.

I'd love to link to it, but that's not really on, since it's all copyright.

However if you join/go to the facebook ariel.club group, you'll see it and discussion about it.

What I can say without so much worry about copyright is:

It's the Atom 4, which apparently is all new...

"Bigger" tubes to help stiffness
Wider rears but the car isn't wider... just longer
more room for driver and passenger and more storage under the nose
new intake and rethink on airflow and suspension.
Engine from the Civic Type R, using a turbo to give 316bhp.
a bit heavier... and price starting about the same as the old SC - and 0-60 about the same, faster to 100.

It looks like a slightly longer version of the current. Bits I think that look a lot different:
- The air intake, now seems to arch into the passenger area
Petrol tank appears to be canted forward.
Otherwise just looks a bit longer and a bit "sleeker", because of that.

Before anyone starts getting all picky about the above, ie. using the words "bigger tubes". I'm doing it intentionally so as to not be copying the article, I know what it says, and I know what I've said is subtly different, but you get the idea, it's on purpose :)

I did read the article in top gear magazine...but I’m surprised they know before the club does.

But all right, looking forward to it

Biggest question I have is if it will have an type approval for europe, as this will have enormous influence on the value of my car. I now own the only, or one of the very few factory original 3.5 supercharged with a legal license plate

That really does look quite smart.

I'm still unsure about the protruding air intake... but that aside, I think there I like it.

Positives in my mind:
  • The new dash... not just the colour TFT, but the buttons too... all looks very smart.
  • TC and LC - more the TC if I'm honest, nothing like a bit of reassurance when it's damp/wet.
  • Increased range... 300 miles is great news.
  • The overall look, with the exception of the intake, I think it looks very smart and purposeful.
It'll be interesting to see how much more than the base £40,000 it costs to have what you'd consider "normal" options. Definitely something I'd consider if numbers work.

I'm still of the opinion that this is the new base-level atom, and that there won't be a N/A version any longer.

At least the emission norm problem may be solved for the moment with the new engine.

165lb heavier than the K20 based UK model but 75hp more powerful. 100lbs heavier than the 3.5R and down 30hp. 162mph top speed is higher than the 3.5R which was only rated for 155mph. But the 3.5R has the pods and wings. I say the current 3.5R is actually a better and more exciting car.

However, I'm stoked Ariel launches into the new generation still Honda powered, still stick shift, still basically with the same super light construction. Go Ariel!

I'm curious to see what the faster cars will over in terms of power upgrades since this one is already turbo, maybe just a tune to 400hp.

The F1 like aero is really good looking.

The tank is the same at 40 liters, I imagine the range increase is some sort of mathematical calculation based on increased efficiency of the turbo 4 pot. Not too crazy about the real world range increase.

Will there be a racing spec version with proper cage and other safety items?

Thanks Stu. Looking forward to rejoining the fold (my forum joined date makes me feel very old). Can we book Spa for 2019?
