Ariel Atom 3 air filter
Evening all,
What make/model air filter is fitted to a supercharged AA 3, and how do you remove/replace it? It looks like the original one is stuck in with some sort of silicone?
Cheers

There are a few options: K&N, ITG or Pipercross all mentioned in the topic above.

Re: Ariel Atom 3 air filter
Bumping an old thread to see if there are any other options for air filters, I tried cleaning my ITG filter today and it disintegrated, so weary about ordering another one, granted this one is original for a 2005 AA K20.

Good advice in the links...

Re: Ariel Atom 3 air filter
I have found this old thread but the links now seem to be obsolete. I am trying to track down the right part number for a K&N air filter for my Atom 3 (SC). Based on the dimensions of around 240x160mm there are a few options, i therefore just wanted to check in to see if anyone could confirm before I buy the wrong one! It currently has an ITG panel in there but i want to stick with what i know.
Thanks in advance if anyone can either extract the info from the above links or is able to confirm from personal experience on the part needed. I think it is 33-2282 but 33-5050 looks to fit the sizes too.

Re: Ariel Atom 3 air filter
thank you John, so looks like the 33-2282 is the one. i went for the 33-5050 and have it arriving in a few days so will post an update if it works as an alternative option. thank you for your help on this.
Re: Ariel Atom 3 air filter
i am in possession of both and the 33-5050 fitted fine and was sealed in by the team at the factory. They were very adament that the filter should be stuck and not just placed. Just an FYI which I'm sure you all knew anyway. When I went to change it mine was just sat in there from the previous independent service before I owned the car.
Re: Ariel Atom 3 air filter
Hi No1Dave, do you maybe know what they used to seal it onto the intake?

As I live in Cyprus I received the following information from Steve Rooke (Service manager) at Ariel :
".....Air Filter installation
[a] Obviously your atmospheric conditions in Cyprus will likely to be extremely dusty, so replacing the air filter is essential.
It is not recommended to blow out/reuse the old air filter element as the air filter matrix may be damaged during the process, also it would be necessary to remove the old air filter element (cut it out as it is bonded in) to blow it through the correct way (otherwise you would push any dirt/debris into the filter/inlet further).
The replacement air filter MUST be bonded in (use PU adhesive NOT Silicone), and also must be inserted in the correct way.
DO NOT use a cleaner other than a specific air cleaner element product and then use a light oil spray on the element prior to installation.
NOTE: Ariel Service have seen elements with holes in, and the next year (after we have replaced element previously) the engine has let go, due to the damage caused by a filter NOT FILTERING correctly.
The old air filter element requires carefully cutting out, making sure that no debris whatsoever is left in the inlet before bonding in the new filter element with PU adhesive..............."
