I don’t think there are that many really. Circumstances change. The one on CC has 40 miles on so may have been bought in expectation of overs? Nomad owners may be getting out in the expectation of a Nomad 2 in the near future? Who knows.

I think a fair few Nomad owners bought them to fill the gap before the Atom 4. And with such long lead times on the A4, I suspect a fair few had circumstances change, or think they can turn a profit. It's also summer which is a better time to be selling (as people can use the car) than winter.

I think people are trying to make a fast buck.

It’s a shame that Ariel can’t ‘vet’ customers out, before building these machines

I appreciate that circumstances do change.

Build to drive!!

Seems crazy to me to wait all that time for your car and not even drive a single mile in it! 🤯 I suppose circumstances change but like others have said, some people may be trying to flip for a profit. That 100k AA4 has been hanging around on Autotrader for a while though and that must be very close to if not less than list price.

Re. 4 pricing, there is very limited market for what is a complete toy, and as more and more come to the market (it's been out for 2 years now) and given that most potential owners will have probably talked to the factory and know what they cost new, the opportunity to turn a profit has gone, thank goodness.

Its a fickle market with only 100+ atoms produced by the factory per year. The two/three year waiting list is only 300+ people world wide excl North America.

I hoping the flippers have gone onto the next great thing, and we can get on with driving our machines.

My last did 22k plus hard trackday miles and had exactly the same torque/horse power at the wheels 15 years later.

These vehicles are design to be driven like you stole it!

Presume the owner isn't on here and keeping quite? I was going to bid, but thought sensible to sell current car first

I was up there bidding at the end and was winning for a while!
It did not meet the reserve and I’ve been offered the car after hours by the collecting cars. I have been thinking about it but am going to decline as with the fees it is a considerable amount over what the car cost from the factory.
I do appreciate however supply and demand but the premium was a bit high for me to think I got a “reasonable deal”.

I thought an update on the car I linked to on the starting post of this thread 2.5 years ago might be useful to any potential buyers - the ex-experience day 2016 supercharged 3.5 originally owned by Car Limits and advertised for £39900 way back in 2018. It has since been up for sale with 2 other dealers at various prices above £40k and was then sold via Collecting Cars to another dealer, Targa Florio Cars (who have sold quite a few Atoms over the years) in April for £31700 + 6% fees - https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2016-ariel-atom-3-5.

It was immediately advertised by Targo Florio Cars for £48k and needless to say, it is still for sale. This week it reappeared on their website and Ebay at £46k having had £8k spent on it at the factory, including 2 new Tillet B6 seats (which are c.£3k fitted I believe). https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124818489400 ... SwuuJg96Np

So, it cost Targo Florio Cars £31.7k + 6% fees + £8k - a total of £41.6k and they want £46k for it. With its spec. and history, I reckon it is worth no more than £38k, especially as it is running on non-adjustable Bilsteins, which would be at least £3k to replace with new 2-spring adjustable versions, or maybe £1.5k second hand if you can find them. (I'm not sure why they didn't just paint the rather tatty looking bench seat and replace the dampers instead?).

For anybody considering buying a car without a full annual factory history, especially a former experience day car, caveat emptor.

Thanks for info.

Car prices are crazy right now - but a experience day car in the hands of those who go mental in a rental at top dollar is one to be avoided and would be difficult to sell on.

There are a few bad ones out there hiding an iffy history.

The factory is an idea source of info to pick out the good ones.

Also due diligence through checking accident damage, checking previous owners and checking the history. The last ones that I was about to buy had a history that traced back to a farmyard and previous owner who ran it in the cup series!!

Absolutely. Crazily enough they have just increased the asking price to £50k which now puts it about £12k over its value!
