Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

A dry day, without much crap on the roads so time to begin bedding the pads in. The balance is very good, at lower speeds bite is good, at higher speeds, feel like they have a bit to go yet. Modulation is good, no unexpected lockups and consistent each time. They remind me a lot of the Alcons in my...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

What is the correct size for the AP Master Cylinders by using the 9441 front and rear? To an extent that will be down to individual preference, but the key point at this stage is that equal sizing seems to work (both in theory and in practice). As a starting point I'd probably suggest a pair of 0.7...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Are these not the 9444 AP 5000R pro calliper suitable for 13” wheels and therefore 280mm discs as the other calliper 9440 are for 28mm thick discs when the 9444 take a range of thicknesses including standard Ariel size of 24mm I believe. https://apracing.com/race-car/brake-calipers/pro-5000-r-range...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

I read that these beautifull calipers are made for 315 mm diameter discs minimum, but the AP discs are only 288 mm. Are the pads every where in contact with the disc ? or perhaps not on the pads exterior angles ? Fair point, but I've seen vids of the pads against disc fitment and it was spot on. Ho...

Did you have to change the stays or anything else or is it direct fitting ?
New caliper brackets are needed.

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Looks nice! Not sure about the rattle springs though... Very curious about your experiences with this upgrade on track! Cheers, abel. Do the anti-rattle spring go over the sleeving pieces rather than as substitutes? I'm thinking in terms of overall caliper rigidity. But in overall terms I think the...

Re: Atom 3.5r Geometry and Alignment Setups

Would anyone else care to share what they've found works well? Previous experience suggests that few will openly share Yes, unfortunately I have to agree with you there. I also think it's a pity that, especially in such a small fan community, experiences are not shared. This would certainly help to...

Re: Atom 3.5r Geometry and Alignment Setups

I only work with 4s, but was quite interested to know if there's much if any difference in the factory recommended settings for 3.5 and 4. On the 4 we've not settled on -1mm total toe out on the front, +4mm total toe in on the rear, -2deg front camber and -2.5deg rear camber. Would anyone else care ...

Re: Atom 3.5r Geometry and Alignment Setups

What are the factory recommended settings on the 3.5? What's recommended on the 4 is actually pretty much spot on. But don't just assume that what's on your car right now will be as per factory specs. On some cars the alignment will go out of spec even after one track day. We have ours checked, and ...

A routine running temp in the range of 82-88 sounds spot on to me.

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Yep, totally as is Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Well it seems you should count yourself lucky. There's never been anything fundamentally wrong with the way the standard AP setup works (as in stopping the car), but quite a number of owners found the pedal feel and travel to be not to their lik...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Afternoon all, I find this a really interesting thread. I’d say I’m an intermediate driver with a few track days under my belt. I’m now in to my third year owning the Atom 4 with the standard AP’S (not 2 piece). I went out for a spin for the first time this year, amazing to be out again and not too...

Re: Replacement engine mounts for ATOM 3.

Some work is being done on 4s to try to overcome premature wear of the OE predominantly rubber mounts. Basically this entails the addition of a pair of lateral struts that each incorporate a damper unit. Testing thus far has been very encouraging, especially as it seems to provide a reduction in the...

Re: My Atom 4 Journey

Chris's car has consistently been run on factory (track) damper settings. Cambers at -2 all round seems to be ok, although I think we've tried a bit more at the rear. But what it seems most sensitive to is toe settings in order to keep the rear from being too lively. I think we're currently at a smi...
