Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Hi,

Best bet is to give Ben at Corton Miller a shout for the 5000s and brace.

RS14s are around £500, master cylinders are £100 or so.

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

https://thumbsnap.com/s/j6VqA1jk.jpg Pads bedded in pretty quickly, it was obvious early on how much better the setup was! Feel is really good, loads of bite, but not grabby at all on the road. From cold there are no problems with the RS14. They do bite harder when they are warm for sure, but it's ...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Maybe a stupid question, why does the caliper need to come off for pads? Not a stupid question at all. I’ve got the anti rattle springs fitted so the advice was that it’d be easier to drop the calipers and fit the pads from the underside. I think once the springs are omitted the pads can be changes...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

RS14's arrived so today took the 1144's out and replaced. Used the time honoured approach of a piece of string to hang them along with pipe lagging to protect the powder coat on the wishbones. I have the anti-rattle springs fitted which tbh I think I will remove as they make pad changes a little mor...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Hi Phil, discs had some colour and you could smell the pads. It never changed the performance of them but I think a more aggressive pad would be better.

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Last minute decision to go to Bedford today. It was f*cking freezing at 0600 when I departed, didn't warm up much by the time I arrived. But, it was dry, and was going to get warmer, especially with some coffee. Rewind a few months and the last Bedford day I attended was a nightmare. Trying to get t...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Currently it appears that it’s pretty much even. The balance bar is level. It’s running equal master cylinders. It’ll need pushing on track but on road it’s pretty good.

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

A dry day, without much crap on the roads so time to begin bedding the pads in. The balance is very good, at lower speeds bite is good, at higher speeds, feel like they have a bit to go yet. Modulation is good, no unexpected lockups and consistent each time. They remind me a lot of the Alcons in my ...

Yes, it's an easy thing to remove, let's see how they work out. Nice to have the option.

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

I’ll be back in a few days, likely ready for the snow, but as soon as it clears up I’ll be out. Have a track day booked in March.

Yes, they’re 18mm so you get a good benefit there as well.

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Front and rears installed. Master cylinders are now even as the piston diameters are smaller on the rear caliper. Optional anti-rattle springs as these are going to be road and track day use..easy enough to remove if this doesn't bother you? Knockback springs (4lbs IIRC) are fitted as standard. Fitt...

Re: The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes

Both front and rear calipers are on the car now, had a video sent over of the installation and it looks fab. I have gone with 1144's for the time being then see how they do on the road and track before making any decisions.
