Pads bedded in pretty quickly, it was obvious early on how much better the setup was!
Feel is really good, loads of bite, but not grabby at all on the road. From cold there are no problems with the RS14. They do bite harder when they are warm for sure, but it's not a problem as far as I can tell? Discs look good, even all over and when you do push the tyres to the point where they start to lock you can feel what is going on, really nice. Another welcome return is that when you lightly press the pedal it scrubs off speed without you having to put much into it, OE stuff never gave this feeling, not with my setup anyway. Ultimate stopping power probably not that much different, but the 5000's give you so much confidence. The pedal travel is about 20mm, it never varies, at the track it was perfect all day. I really wish I had put RS14s in from the start now.
So there we have it. The curious case of the Atom 4 brakes.....done!
In summary;
1. OE setup - pedal issues, wooden
2. Factory service, pedal ok for 200 miles - big issues on track
3. Fit brace, knockback springs, up one size on both master cylinders and RS14s - balance issues, heavily locking rears
4. Fit 5000r calipers with 1144s using the OE two piece AP discs and 2 x 0.7 master cylinders (IIRC) - good on the road, pads getting hot on track, a bit wooden
5. Fit RS14s - Jizzy
A huge thanks to, in no particular order;
Steve, always on the phone to give advice, genuinely engaged in the process of improving things, top man.
Ben @corton miller for putting so much time into developing this kit and supporting the process, really good guy to deal with a very professional outfit.
Chris/Paul/Phil/Ian all have given me loads of help, and when things were properly shite and certain members of the community were taking the piss all the time you kept me sane.
At Anglessey if anyone wants to have a try you are more than welcome, I guarantee you'll be blown away.
