The British psyche is best explained by the fact that we have a NATIONAL Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and a ROYAL Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

i.e. in the greater heirarchy, kids aren't as important as animals

I looked at their website, nowhere do they actually tell you what it stands for! Protection, Prevention etc... who knows, even more possibility than those. I'm amazed!

Who is NSPCC? (I'll google them) Were there other Atom people there? Write descriptions like your telling a 14 year old. Odds are they are looking at our picts. Take the opportunity to educate them. I know my nephew looks at the gallery from time to time. You just have to keep it short. Not picking on you, I want to make a point that this could be one of the best PR things the club could do beside actually showing up at charity events and hoons. People are visual and when I first found the gallery I looked at every pict and read every caption trying to soak it all up.

Ok your category is created. Hows that for quick? Just a hour and a half or so.  :) The problem with that many folders is it's still too difficult to track down a specific picture. When there get to be that many albums with 4-5 track days at a single track then we can create a sub-category within UK track days. The drop down list will always be a pain, limitation of the software. But at least you can 10 picts at a time right? This will evolve over time... Right now I'm just trying to bring some responsiveness and organization to the gallery. I can limit the drop down list but it requires I lock uploads to those albums for anyone other than admins. Probably not an issue on stuff going back 2 years or more. I'll go ahead and do that for everything from 2005 and earlier so it'll help you out there with a shorter list to cull through.

PS: I need an Description for your new Castle Combe album, short sweet, a sentence or two. Maybe who went, what kind of day.

Too fast for me  :D  I'm still waiting for the CD of photos from the photographer!!  (Never got round to taking any myself.)

OK  I give up........ for now I'll see how it evolves.

Description " Charity event for NSPCC."

The general folder is already there. You could upload all your picts right now, then a moderator can come along later and create the subfolder after the fact the way I'm thinking. Of course i would love it if you would go into and comment on all the current pictures, way too many of them even have a basic description. They lack any context. Names, dates, places, storys about the day, etc... all of it also would be searchable if descriptions or keywords were in there. Castle Combe 27.01.07 is being created right now for you.

The only problem with that John is that you lose the dates for each Event Album (Folder).

[/quote]

If anyone actually likes my idea!!  I'll go into each dated trackday folder and add the date as a comment then it could be moved into that tracks general folder.

Fantastic job.....but  :D

Does any UK member have a problem with listing the UK circuits alphabetically and then adding the photos into each folder as they are visited?  This would reduce it down to approx 19 folders for each circuit and one for airfields.  I would also suggest two folders one for Spa and Nurburing.

Depends if you see a track outing as an event or not.

Not sure what you mean Bruce.  I'll keep banging on ;D

If you create the 19 odd folders for each UK track then anyone can add one or as many photos to that folder (adding the date and a comment).  If you continue as we are currently set up you have to ask someone (I always ask Ross to set up a new folder (Please can someone set up one called Castle Combe 27.01.07)) So you loose the spontaneity of trying to add a few photos on the spur of the moment.  You wait for the folder to be set up and then get round to uploading the photos months later.

Also at the moment when you use the drop down box to choose the folder you want to put your pictures into the list is quite short, but already the list is a bit of a pain, if you add hundreds more folders for individual trackdays that will only be used once or twice then the drop down list is going to become unmanageable and this will put people off from uploading photos.

Just a thought, but no one seems to agree!

Driver,  Again fantastic job  :tu:

Just the one folder to move, it's in UK & Eurpoean Events and is my factorty visit dated 030805 I suggest it's moved into Ariel Factory UK section.

Thanks for he compliments everyone. At least I know you all are liking and not hating the changes. :) I'm hoping all this work will prompt people to start using the OUR Atom Photo Gallery more.

Ok just finished re-org of the UK Special Events area. More albums, more specific. Bruce (and anyone else that may have been at those events) would you mind going through the MIsc albums and see if I left any orphaned that should've gone in a different album, maybe put some names with faces in the comments for the Christmas party?

Now if we could just get a couple of US ones to put in that section (I know there were 2-3 Atoms at Hallet at one point :) )....

The only problem with that John is that you lose the dates for each Event Album (Folder). I was thinking about this yesterday all day while I was making the changes and think we should have a list of guidelines. The number of Albums (to me at least) is not a problem anymore than the number of threads per area here on the Forum is.

Here's what I propose:
  • To do a "Album" one must have at min 10 pictures to upload  (to make it interesting as well as informative)
  • Descriptions for each picture (otherwise it's boring, who - what - when - where)
  • Less than 10 picts per subject goes in the Misc or General Album within that area.
That's a first effort at trying to formalize some sort of guideline. I mean there is a Comment area but very few people ever leave one. Yawn. ??? Have to make this better.
