I did just turn on the 'Match whole words only' option, see if that improves things for you? I tried your example above and it seemed to fix the problem you were having.

I don't want to cause work for people, but as one of the first things I learned about owners club forums was that you really should use search before asking questions, it's something I've been trying to do lots of.  In turn I've found this particular problem causing a fair few troubles.

Don't think you can - it requires the forum administrator to probably create some more refined indexes ..

If the admin folk are willing to look into this, there's an SMF forum mod that addresses many search issues that will fix this :-

Is there any way to get search to search for whole words.

Take "IVA" for example, the reasults come back with subjects about "prIVAte plates", "actIVAtion", "avIVA", "festIVAl"

etc. etc. you get the idea.

I tried searching with a space either side, but those get stripped out.
