So now that we have that established.

What are the fastest (and available) tyres ?

Thanks, i think i follow you. We call that ‘pickup’. Hot tyres collecting the pieces of rubber from the dirty part of the track.

sorry, i'm French  ;)
the gumm on track that you can collect on your tyres during driving will bond or not on tyres depending of your tyre Temperature. And if it bonds it can be dispatch all over your tyre. Never has this on Yoko or Toyo on my Atoms but on race slicks (not on an Atom), yes.
Perhaps it's not this phenomen on your tyre but you can test it with trying to peel some part of gumm (i'm not speaking of the gumm that is on the edges of your tyres). It's look like the surface is dirty and not regular ("lisse" as we say in french).

if you collect some gumm one or two times with wrong pressure/T°, it'll bond to your tyres ;-)

Sorry i don’t think i quite understand, could you explain your statement more please ?

Never seen tyres so bad, would seriously look at whats going on here, either a tyre defect or pressure issue!
16psi felt ok handling wise, maybe i over did it session time wise but there was no indication of the tyres going off and losing grip.

Maybe this tyre isn’t suited to atoms ?

I’ll try and buy a set of a048s as they seem popular. Any suggestions on where to find a pair of 225/45/16 medium compound A048s ?

it looks like the gumm we can see is not the one of your tyre but the gumm you collect on the track bonded on your tyres  ;D

i kind of thought that but i don’t think my lines are that bad !!!

Never seen tyres like that on any Atom !

What are you doing to them?

What tyre pressures are you running ? - they're overheating big time  :o
That was a result of a 2 hour track night. My first in an atom, so i wasn’t even really pushing it. I set them to 16psi hot. Well, I say hot. I couldn’t believe how cold the tyres were - straight off the track and into the pits and on with the gauge.

Thanks for the reply Steve.

I’ve owned the car for less than a month now.

It came with a set of fresh A048’s on TD wheels, another set of TD wheels with Dunlop 03gs and an extra pair of front A048’s tyres.

So I have an excess of A048 front tyres which id like to match up with the rapidly melting rears!

The Dunlop front tyres have a few hours track use left as well, sadly i think the rears are done.

By the way has anyone had an issue with the melted rubber chocking up on the rear mudguards ?

Have you looked at Toyo R888R? They are the replacement for R888s. Demon Tweeks seem to have stock.

Never tried them, but 888s were always very good on Atoms.
