It was much more than a standard Atom 3.5 with all the options ticked.
The engine was originally the 2.0 litre supercharged engine from the normal 3.0/3.5 but with the boost upped from 7.5 to 11 psi, the power was up from 310 to 350 bhp and torque was up too.
The standard car had by then changed to the K24 2.4 litre, longer stroke engine as Ariel held back the last of the 2.0 engines for the early 3.5Rs but eventually the 3.5R got the K24 too but there is some doubt as to whether that variant makes the full 350 bhp.
The 3.5R also introduced the sidepods option only seen before on the limited edition Atom 500, V8.
In here was an oil cooler and charge cooler for keen track use.
The Ohlins TTX36 dampers were a feature as was the Sadev 6 gear, air operated sequential gearbox with paddle shift.
The rear wheels were wider shod with Kumho tyres.
I’m not sure I know what was a base 3.5R spec, but the many different options means that pretty much every 3.5R is different.
