ditto

never use mine

just need for the mot

never need for hill starts etc and is in quite a tricky location to use regularly anyway.......

almost never. in the garage there is no need to and when I park where it is flat, I put it in gear, I only need/ use it when I park on a hill or such and the Atom isn't that wide, you can reach it when it's on the wrong side, no problem.
In the states, if I'm correct a parking brake is optional and all Atoms 2 with rear Alcons on them (once again if i'm correct) lack the hand brake...so I'm not alone.

But when you want to change the steering permanent, you could swap it with you, I thought you wanted to swap it once in a while, than I would leave it in place if this is difficult to change.

you could leave the handbrake in place then...

And always have the passenger put in on?
I would feel better having it next to me.. or drive the car LHD (no conversion)

i have just calculated it, it would come to 48k,
but if i compare this, i would need to include the cost of upgrading lights (?) and dash (1800+VAT) and the cost of the 1 year service which is due on that car. which would get the price to > 40k.

I am just wondering if others on sale on PH are better deals than this one?

And i am still debating the idea of spending 40k£ on one more toy, or investing it...
No you wouldn't ??? what's wrong with the existing ones...99% of Atoms have them!!!

Investing or car???.....better deals than this???
You seem a little confused / hard to please......now isn't maybe the time to buy one if you've any doubts at all.

I agree with Wattie.

If you're looking to buy an Atom, whether new or used, your first port of call should be the factory. I'd advise you organise to visit them. They'll answer all your questions and give you a run out in the car. If you step out of the car still thinking about investing money, you're not destined to be an Atom owner!

I went to see the car this saturday, had a passenger ride could not really experience the atom thrill as the roads did not allows us to do so.
Loved the sound, heard a lot of rattling, i think due to the road condition, the car had not been cleaned but had no marks or other stone chips.

Some rust already on the handbrake, the car spent a year in Israel and traveled by boat i assume this has done no good to it in term of humidity and salt....
It hasnt been serviced since the first service at Atom 500 miles. (waiting to hear what the factory has to say, i did contact them).
Overall in good condition and in dire need of a good clean.
Look at the conversion LHD/RHD, seems quite straight forward the most annoying being switching the handbrake.

They make a product for dogs called doggles as opposed to shoggles. My boxer regularly comes in the car with me with a harness atached to the seat belt. He wouldn't wear anything over his eyes. He sleeps on the seat if no passenger and if
so, in the footwell.

Search doggles.

I think you are misunderstanding my point: I compare buying this vs a new one.
To do so I want to compare two similar things since I personally like the looks of the new dash and that I get it at no extra cost in the new one, this I a point to consider.

In regards to investing or buying a toy (not a car), yes I do consider the 2: 35k + leverage in an investment can mean the ability to buy one small property. I never have 35k that sleep on my current account.
Do I need those 35k or the additional investment: not really but the same goes for another toy.

Obviously which do I want more: I couldn't care less about a property it means more problems as well.. but it is the more sensible choice, but would we be there if we always made the sensible choices.

A better deal: of course I am going to consider this point, those cars are hard to value and the resale prices are all over the place for similar cars as to why I am asking you more knowledgeable people some insight about this car/deal. when I am asking about better deal I am asking you if you think that there are other atom 3 on the market that are better value for money.

As for the doubts, I am full of doubts each time I have to spend more than a gran, yet I still spend it on a weekly basis for my rent....
In all reality, this is not an expensive car but it is an expensive go-kart which I will only get to take out when I do not have to take the dog on the weekend or do things that require more than 2 spaces or a boot.

Do you think they sell helmets for dogs, wouldn't it look awesome in the passenger seat  :roflp:

I hope I haven't offended anyone.. it wasn't my intent.

Max, given it's a 12 plate car, the factory should know EVERYTHING about it. Get them to email you the final spec. It might have the new 3.5 dash (depending on when he picked it up (I got mine in June 12 and have the new dash). See what else it comes with. If it specced with adjustable shocks (which it looks like) and say full alcons, the front and rear wings, it looks a decent price if low mileage. But check. If the factory don't know the car, then steer clear unless you're very confident in your own ability to do work. They do lose track of some cars....
Not so sure about this....there are some very good garages elsewhere that can do servicing/repairs etc although I accept it's better with a full ARIEL HISTORY.

Seems a good car ...on the face of it.....(wouldn't think it's shot to pieces after a year) to me!

Cheers wattie

Yeah it's a fair point Wattie but with such a specialist car the factory should know something about it. It's not like the UK is so big it can't go back there. Having said that's its probably my complete lack of ability to do anything to my own car mate! :faint:

Re: Buying an Atom

by Alex Brandon-Smith » Fri Jul 26, 2013 1:34 pm

I would have said it was a decent price too. Do you really need the dash upgrade? Yeah it's nice but for over 2k I'd keep the old one...and I've got the new one! If you can haggle the price in the you've got a deal...or sell the windscreen! ;D

Buy a 3 year old car and invest 10-12 grand
Yeah but 09/10 car are around the 30k mark, so not a big diff between 35k if the price can be taken down a little.
