here's something interesting, I just noticed....at least I think this is interesting

When you change the subject line, you don't get email updates letting you know someone has replied to you post...Is that correct?

I turned that option off ages ago, my in box was getting swamped!!

Same here, but the odd thread pops up every now and then when an old one is resurrected by someone as you have to cancel each thread separately, which is a pain.

When you reply to a thread you can change the title to your reply but not the general title (I think).

To change the general title you have to go into the first post and change the title there ie the person who started the  thread or a moderator.  (I do this quite often on events threads to add a date that makes sense ie rather than a title that read let's meet next Friday I'll add the actual date the Friday may be!)

I knew that. I was speaking  from the average posters perspective. We all know Mods and admins have powers to change a lot. Short of WHO made the post and the Edited By comment at the bottom all bets are off.

You can change the thread title in your OWN reply easily. Only the original poster can change the Thread Title by editing their first post as it appears in the Forum listings. Whatever reply ones title haas depends on what the thread title is when they reply or if they manually modify it.

Not true...

See the use of smilies (as was...)

Moderators, like yourself Bruce, can also change other peoples initial posts in a thread just like Driver has with Kin's to show his Atom has been Sold.

Changing it from 'Mint condition 245 for sale' to 'Mint condition 245 for sale - Sold'

We understood that.  Bruce just wanted to know how to change the thread title

and your newest post and mine take on the new subject of the thread, but the rest stay as they were...It's really a darn good system. :tu:

check out this post you were replying in yesterday

notice how I changed the name of the thread, the subject in the posts before the change stay the same, but the title of the whole thread changed, and also, any subsequent posts made after I made the change to the initial thread subject line, continue with the new name.
