I'm guessing that the 225/50 R16's will still fit under the fenders?

I run 225/50-16's on the rear for my DOT R tire. It fits.

They fit very easily under mine which have been extended for clearance. I beleive they will also fit under standard fenders if adjusted to their uppermost position in the slotted mounting bracket. I can check this out on my new car in the next couple of weeks.

As soon as you confirm I'm buying a set.. :tu: I'm ready for some cooler day squishy tires... The A0's liked the 105F degree day but the pilot did not..

The closest Atom spec tire (to fit non/Dymag wheels) is 225/50/R16 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp ... r&model=R6

I could not find Hoosier 225/45 R16's for the rear...

Question.

Where do you buy these tires, and how much do they cost.
Are they a good choice for track-day tires (used in cycles for one day, then stored doe 1-2 months before the next day.)

Thanks.

I purchase them from the Tire Rack. If oyu use the Tire Rack link on AtomFest.net, a portion of your price will be contributed to AtomFest. http://www.atomfest.net/links.asp#sponsors

The Hoosiers cost about 197 each for the fronts and $206 each rear in normal Atom sizes.

Nicolas,

Which tires are you referring to?

All tires will get "harder" as they cycle.  If you have a set of dedicated track tires and plan to use them only once a month or so, the best thing to do is take them off of the car and store them in plastic garbage sack in a cool temperature away from direct sunlight.

This will keep them in good shape.

Also, it is best to put one heat cycle into the tires and then let them "rest" for 24 hours before flogging them.  The tires will not perform better, they will perform longer.

Twebb.

Ahhh, the '97 Atom,  what a classic!

Since I'll be driving back to Portland I plan to be very nice to the car over that weekend.  No slicks for me

So if I got my car in April, I assume it would be the stronger material? Or is it for orders after Jan 07?
[/quote]

Builds after Jan 07. Once they went to the new material, all cars got it is my understanding.

The rear upright upgrade was in the materials used, not the design. Since at least January, 2007 they have been made from chrome moly, whereas they previously were mild steel. I say since January because that's when I got my new parts which coincided with my brake upgrade which is documented here http://forum.atomclub.com/index.php/topic,3637.0.html.

I assume the new chrome moly units could be ordered from Brammo for anyone desiring to do so. It just worked out for me that when I upgraded brakes, I needed new rear uprights for mounting the Wilwood rears and the new ones were available by then.

Another option I could supply for AtomFest would be AO48's for folks who have not run them before. Would this be a better choice?

Bolus,

You have had your car for a lot longer then most people right? I'm still trying to find that thread with the ongoing improvements to the car. Its possible your car was built before the improvement. Anyone have an upclose picture of a new car that got delivered in the last month or so?
