How hard do you guys think it would be to talk a county into closing a few roads for a few hours for some races? I mean they do it for breast cancer runs and parades and all kind of other things(and thats in major cities). It cant be too hard to talk them into giving up a few miles of country back roads for a few hours every once in a while. Perhaps someone should invite the chief of the state police, the county sherif, and the governor for a few laps. That should make them a little more partial! just a thought.....

I used to belong to another car board (actually, I still do - I just don't go there any more) that had an annual get-together in southern California. Mid-afternoon on the last day, the police would start a rolling closure of the 101 (like they do for a presidential motorcade - police cars blocking on-ramps for several miles, another set several miles past that, and then the first set would leapfrog the second to move the closure further up the road) and lead us out onto the 101. At that point, people could open up to whatever they wanted (max speed was around 125) without fear of ticketing - the police didn't enforce the speed limit but aggressively enforced the laws against being stupid (unsafe lane change / reckless / etc.). This seemed to work well for quite a few years. The last time I attended, in 2004, there were around 200 cars participating in this part of the event. I missed the 2005 one, but apparently a bunch of troublemakers ruined it for everyone - in 2004 there was 1 ticket, in 2005 I believe there were well over a dozen, and thus the drive is no longer officially condoned.
Didn't Randy make arrangements with the highway patrol for the 2007 AtomFest Sonic run?
