I was thinking Peter or Eddie who both have big engine work already done or in process and are crazy enough to go all out. :)  Realistically I know the 120-130 spot would be much more like it for the other mere mortals amongst Atom owners. Mandatory rollbars, fire suits and fire suppression doesn't kick in till the higher terminal velocities anyway. Been MANY years since I read the rule book, it's online there somewhere if one is really interested. I think the 100mph class was pretty much a stock corvette and a helmet but Atom owners on the BBOR course would be BORED at that speed. It's 4 lanes wide and has large shoulders, I've done 100 myself on that road when it was open on a normal day in my SS no biggie. Every additional 20-30 MPH over 100 and a few more safety items are required. The really big items I think kick in around the 155 mph mark. Full aero finished anyone?

150mph average class in an Atom?  I think you overestimate our cars there Driver.  :pop:

How hard do you guys think it would be to talk a county into closing a few roads for a few hours for some races? ... just a thought.....

Silver State Classic - Nevada and Big Bend ORR in Texas
Long closed roads and you pick the average speed your going for. Search Google for "Open Road Racing". If Nevada is too far West then there's also the Big Bend Open Road Race in Fort Stockton. Course is 59 miles each way of closed public road. Not 5.9 but FIFTY-Nine miles EACH way!. :)  We went there in 99 in my SS. I think the 200 mile avg was beat a few years back. The atom with it's harnesses, optional fire supression system, set of slicks/rated tires and a roll bar that'll pass tech should get you in the 150mph class fairly easy.

Not cheap though, but then what is?

Didn't Randy make arrangements with the highway patrol for the 2007 AtomFest Sonic run?

well that would explain the drive back to Hallett

I think I saw more of rural Oklahoma that night than the entire rest of the week!

Bolus car is capable of 425whp if i'm not mistaken......not sure on how much he spent but I think just engine stuff not including paddle shifters was between 8k -10k....BUT that may not have all been necessary, he might have used really expensive parts where someone more economically minded could have probably saved money.

BUT another good question is what's really usable on this car.......I guess around 350whp....considering the torque of the ecotec.....so maybe higher whp on the honda.

I really like the driveability and torque of the supercharger.  My only complaint is that there is such a dropoff in acceleration in 3rd and 4th gears from the drag.  I'm leaning towards getting a Harrop with a reasonable setup for the stock internals.  I would also like to avoid any water/meth injection, so maybe an upgraded cooler like some people are doing.

Back to the topic:  Does anyone have over 400HP with a turbo Ecotec, and what was the total installed cost?

It seems like two of the best options we have right now are 300HP with the Harrop for around $2500-3000 installed and tuned and 430HP from this twin-charged kit for $6500 installed.  Both sound like pretty good deals to me.

How hard do you guys think it would be to talk a county into closing a few roads for a few hours for some races?  I mean they do it for breast cancer runs and parades and all kind of other things(and thats in major cities).  It cant be too hard to talk them into giving up a few miles of country back roads for a few hours every once in a while.  Perhaps someone should invite the chief of the state police, the county sherif, and the governor for a few laps.  That should make them a little more partial!  just a thought.....

I used to belong to another car board (actually, I still do - I just don't go there any more) that had an annual get-together in southern California. Mid-afternoon on the last day, the police would start a rolling closure of the 101 (like they do for a presidential motorcade - police cars blocking on-ramps for several miles, another set several miles past that, and then the first set would leapfrog the second to move the closure further up the road) and lead us out onto the 101. At that point, people could open up to whatever they wanted (max speed was around 125) without fear of ticketing - the police didn't enforce the speed limit but aggressively enforced the laws against being stupid (unsafe lane change / reckless / etc.). This seemed to work well for quite a few years. The last time I attended, in 2004, there were around 200 cars participating in this part of the event. I missed the 2005 one, but apparently a bunch of troublemakers ruined it for everyone - in 2004 there was 1 ticket, in 2005 I believe there were well over a dozen, and thus the drive is no longer officially condoned.

Didn't Randy make arrangements with the highway patrol for the 2007 AtomFest Sonic run?

PdxMac told me I was drifting that last uphill/right hand corner every lap.  Didn't even know I was doing it.  But then yeah.. agreed.. the last corner, coming right at the end of the pit wall.. apex too early, you run off.  Apex too late, you run off.  Thread the needle/pucker factor EVERY LAP for me, except the time I took it a little early, had to get off the gas and then back on to slide the ass around.. not good  :H:

It really is a great track for atoms, but not for the inexperienced.

That back straight at ORP is the one that makes me want wings.  My car has gotten loose there from an unloaded suspension.  Granted I am not the most experienced at the wheel by a long shot, but, wings would make me feel better driving there.  ORP is a great fun track ...
